Indiana University Center For Survey Research
Basic Duties
Staff are responsible for conducting telephone interviews on various topics of public and social importance. Staff are also responsible for processing mail surveys including, data entry, mail assembly, database cleaning and other computer related tasks.
Training
All staff must complete 3 training sessions. Each training session lasts approximately 4 hours. Training sessions are scheduled based on staff availability, but all three sessions must be completed within a time frame of 1 week (7 days).
Scheduling
Staff should expect to work an average of 9-21+ hours a week. Shifts run during the morning, afternoon, and evening; 7 days a week. Staff determine which shifts they work by completing an availability form one week in advance. Schedules are posted each week for the following week.
Sometimes, work can be intermittent. We occasionally run low on work and need to send people home. Also, since our workload can vary, there are some weeks when not all our staff are scheduled regularly. These "down times" are usually temporary but may last for a week or longer.
Supervision
As part of our quality control procedures, all staff are closely supervised and monitored while working. This helps staff develop their skills and ensures that the quality procedures of the CSR are followed carefully. Staff receive feedback and suggestions from supervisors based on their work.
ID, Tax and Payroll Forms
Before a staff member can begin training, the following forms must be completed:
These forms must be completed to comply with Title 8, United States Code, Section 1324A, which requires employers to verify employment eligibility of individuals.

All Indiana University employees must be on the direct deposit program. Therefore, in addition to the tax forms listed, all staff must complete and turn in a Direct Deposit form. Staff should plan to bring any pertinent banking information and account numbers, in addition to the required identification listed above, to the orientation meeting.
All payroll and tax forms must be completed before a staff member can begin training. Staff cannot be added to the Indiana University payroll unless all forms are completed.
